As the first step in updating the nursing center, a 16-bed neighborhood addition facilitates person-centered care for seniors needing nursing care and dementia support. The next phase will renovate and update the existing skilled care unit. The compact plan was carefully positioned within a tight site area at the end of one wing of the existing healthcare center. The arts and crafts style addition wraps around a newly created secure courtyard space to provide appealing views from the resident rooms and offer opportunities for outdoor programming.
Inside, the traditional care base is replaced with a simple wooden desk overlooking a sitting area with a large stone fireplace, dining room and serving counter to accommodate resident choice and flexibility. Every suite includes a bathroom with roll-in shower to eliminate the need for a central bathing area.
