In 1996, Essa Flory Hospice Center began offering inpatient palliative care. The need for inpatient care exceeded the center’s capacity, leading to a larger facility that maintains the homelike atmosphere of the original while focusing on connections with nature. The Mount Joy Center is comprised of 24 private rooms all overlooking gardens oriented south to receive the maximum benefits of sunlight year-round. The rooms are organized into three neighborhoods of 8 rooms, each with its own country kitchen, parlors and sun porch to provide comfortable socialization areas for family members.
