Student-First Design

Focusing on those interacting with the spaces the most—the students—the design team intentionally created spaces for sports, tech, and art. These spaces are designed to encourage student interaction and provide a sense of belonging. Among the first spaces completed were the high school’s Learning Commons and the Tech Commons.

Learning Commons

The Learning Commons is centrally located near the high school’s entrance and is a popular student gathering space before classes start for the day. A variety of seating styles are available and provide both small groups and individual students places for conversation or study. Large garage doors separate the space from the school’s classroom wings and act as a fire wall in case of emergency.

It's amazing to see so many teachers and students accessing the space at once. Our kids want to be in this space all the time.

Tech Commons

The High School’s Tech Commons is accessed by a gently sloping ramp and features a wall highlighted by changeable LED lights in a hexagon design.

Opposite the LED-lit wall, a counter with chairs provides a place to study or hang out. Padded stools provide extra places to sit and store neatly in the nearby wall when not in use. Classrooms with transparent garage doors open into the main hallway to encourage interaction and further connect the space, while a green room allows students to record podcasts, music and videos.
