March 10, 2016“O” is for oriel — not to be mistaken for Baltimore’s baseball team or a famous sandwich cookie. It’s actually a specific type of window.
An oriel window is a variation of a bay window with one major distinguishing feature: An oriel window does not touch the ground. This distinctive window type projects from the wall like a bay window in either a faceted or bow shape, but an oriel window is supported by brackets or corbels.
