A Campus Landmark for the Performing Arts
The main element of the Waldner Performing Arts Center is a 750-seat theater with stage and full fly loft, designed to accommodate the complete range of the College’s performing arts needs including speech, choral, orchestra, opera, drama and musical theater.
The building includes a second “black box” performance space, as well as classrooms below the theater on the basement level. Back of house spaces include a green room, changing rooms, a scenery shop and storage areas.
RLPS teamed with Schuler Shook to provide theatre planning and design services for the performance and supports spaces, an orchestra pit lift, and complete theatrical lighting and rigging systems. The building is located in a very prominent location at the center of the campus and features a glass, two-story lobby with outdoor terrace space. The theater is linked to an adjacent existing gymnasium structure which was renovated to provide classrooms, offices and support spaces to create the Humanities Center.
